SEO for iGaming: what generic agencies get wrong
AWISEE Team · 5 December 2025
A generalist SEO agency arriving in iGaming for the first time tends to make the same handful of mistakes, usually because the standard playbook assumes constraints that simply don’t apply here.
Content that reads as generic gets penalised, not just ignored
In most verticals, thin or generic content underperforms. In iGaming, regulators and search engines alike treat certain categories of vague or misleading claims about odds, bonuses or outcomes as a red flag, not just a quality signal. Content needs to be accurate as well as optimised.
Link sources need a second layer of vetting
A backlink from an irrelevant or low-quality site is a wasted opportunity in most industries. In iGaming, a link from the wrong kind of site — one operating without a licence in the relevant jurisdiction, for instance — can create an association you don’t want, independent of any SEO value.
Jurisdiction changes the entire strategy
Search intent, competitive landscape and even permissible advertising language shift meaningfully between jurisdictions in ways that a single global SEO strategy doesn’t account for. A programme built for one regulated market rarely transfers cleanly to the next without rework.
What this means in practice
Specialisation isn’t a nice-to-have positioning line for an agency working in this space — it’s the difference between a strategy that survives a compliance review and one that doesn’t.
